On a positive note my son Charl started to hunt full-time with Shikra Safaris. He has many years of hunting experience in Africa and has also hunted in Australia, Switzerland, Canada and Serbia. He also hunted Elephants with me in Botswana and South Africa apart from also personally having hunted Buffaloes and Hippo.

We hosted 6 hunts for small carnivores and of these hunts booked mainly for Serval, we had a 100% success rate. We hunt a maximum of 6 – 7 Servals a season over an area of at least 40 000ha, which have little or no effect on their population dynamics.

We initiated the hunting season in January with a visit by two energetic and passionate (and very ethical) hunters from Spain, who took Common Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck and Blesbuck trophies. Hats off to Manuel.

Mountain Reedbuck Common Reedbuck

Two American hunters and their lovely wives visited us during the beginning of April. Tom was mainly interested in small carnivores while Steve took mostly normal plains game. Tom took Civet, Serval, White-tailed Mongoose, Rusty-spotted Genet, Cape Fox, Side-striped Jackal as well as Nyala, Mountain Reedbuck, Common Reedbuck and an Oribi. Steve and his wife took Nyala, Eland, 2 Impala 2 Kudu (one of 58 inch), 2 Blesbuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and Waterbuck.

After the hunt my son Charl took the group to Kwazulu-Natal where they stayed at the Rhino Ridge lodge in Hluhluwe Game Reserve. They also visited lake St. Lucia and several other tourist destinations.
