At the beginning of May we began a hunt with 3 Austrians on their first time with us. Helmut took Red Duiker, Serval, White-tailed Mongoose, Rusty-spotted Genet and Bushpig. Josef and his wife took between them Nyala, 2 Bushbuck, 2 Impala, 2 cape Eland, 1 Kudu, Common Reedbuck, Bushpig, Mountain Reedbuck, 2 Impala and Blesbuck. They also took two porcupines at night in the fields. This hunt will stand out as one of the highlights of the year and to have hunted with people who respect the animals they hunt while employing high ethical hunting standards, was indeed a privilege.
My old friend Wilfried from Feldkirch in western Austria and a hunting partner Franz visited us late in May in our Karoo area. This was Wilfried’s 4th safari with Shikra Safaris. The main objective was for a Roan Antelope bull which Wilfried took after many days looking for a specific animal. He also took a culling Blue Wildebeest. Franz took Kudu, Steenbuck, Grey Duiker, Springbuck, Blesbuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Impala and Warthog.
During middle July we hosted Philipp from Germany and his lovely new bride. They decided to fit in a hunt during the first part of their honeymoon! What a wife to allow this! He hunted with us mainly on advice from his brother Florian, and old hunting friend.
